Year In Review

2014 is over so we decided to make a small post about this past year. Actually, we started this blog this year, on June. Since then we reached 105 followers! We want to thank you so much for sticking with us this past months and for commenting and reading our reviews and all the things we've posted. Also we want to apologize for not posting much this past couple of months, we've been busy and we haven't found the time. January will also be complicated and very busy since we have finals at the end of the month and we'll have our hands full. However we promise to post a few reviews over the month, unfortunately we don't think we'll have the time to post the memes we usually post but hopefully things will go back to normal on February.
We hope you have a great and happy year full of books, of course!

Review: I Want It That Way

I Want It That Way
by Ann Aguirre

book rate:

Brief Introduction:

Nadia Conrad is a 21-year-old with big dreams. Between college and her work at the local day care to be able to support herself, she couldn't be more excited to get out of the college dorms and  moves into a new apartment with her closest friends. That's when Nadia meets the distant yet irresistible guy in 1B…

Daniel Tyler has had his life turned upside down. As he tries to balance his personal life with a full-time job and night classes, all he wants when he gets home is silence. The last thing he needed were four noisy students moving into the apartment upstairs. But one night, these neighbors' paths cross and that encouter pretty much changed their lives.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens.

Review:

"I Want It That Way" was far from being either a great book or a terrible book so this review will be shorter than  usual.

Surprisingly I didn't dislike it as much as I initially thought I would. The storyline was predictable as well as the characters' backstories but there were some elements in this novel that did surprise... Nadia's girl friend and roommate relationship with one of her other friends was very refreshing to read about, the whole development and denouement was totally different from what I expected to read about when I pick "I Want It That Way" up.

Sam, Ty's son was another positive element of this book. HE IS ADORABLE, you don't get it, he's the ultimate embodiment of adorability! Sam was definitly one of the main reasons that kept me hooked on this novel.

I found everything else very predictable, the main characters, the plot, etc, etc. A 3-stars book for me. Would recommend only if you have nothing better to read.

Review: Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
By Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

From goodreads:

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

16-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on her favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges.

What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Co-written by Rachel Cohn (GINGERBREAD) and David Levithan, co-author of WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), DASH & LILY'S BOOK OF DARES is a love story that will have readers scouring bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Review:

When I read the premise of this book I was amazed! I wanted to read it instantly! It sounded so awesome and the cover was beautiful! Obviously I downloaded the e-book immediately. It turned out not to be what I was hoping for.

This book did have a great plot. The idea of a dare, getting to know a person through words, all of that was an amazing idea but I felt like it was not fully developed because of the characters, they were just terrible!

This book is written in two POV, Dash and Lily. Dash is probably one of the worse characters I've come across. First of all he's one of the rudest person I've ever read about. He was supposed to be this sarcastic person, but there's a limit between sarcasm and rudeness and we was way over that limit. The author was probably trying to make him funny but he failed, I didn't laugh once in this book! I'm serious, it was that terrible and is not hard to make me laugh, I laugh about mostly everything. Secondly, he was always complaining about everything! Specially about Christmas. We get that he hates Christmas on the first chapter, he doesn't have to keep mentioning it all the time! But most importantly, what I really hated about this character was the way he talked and thought. The author tried to make him this intellectual 16 year old, but no one talks like him! Specially not 16 years old boys! It was ridiculous. There were times I had to get my English-Portuguese dictionary because I couldn't understand some words, do you know how annoying that is?!

Then we have Lily. I didn't think it was possible but I disliked her even more than Dash. She was the most spoiled and annoying little brat ever! She acted liked a 12 year old! I've met younger girls more mature than she was. She annoyed the hell out of me! Always complaining because she was not the center of attention. There were certain things she said and did that were typical of a 8 year old girl. I'm not exaggerating, that's exactly how I felt. She was that annoying.

Apart from the bad characters, the plot just got stupid towards the end of the book. There are certain things that happened that are just unrealistic. As I've mentioned before the premise was a great idea but the development of the actual plot was a disappointment.

All in all, this was a bad read for me. Like I've mentioned in other reviews, my opinion may differ from yours so if you're thinking about reading this book please don't let this review stop you.

Feature and Follow #12

Feature and Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

Question of the Week: Do you have a go to genre when you're happy, sad, or angry?
When I'm happy I don't really have a genre, I like to read everything. Ehen I'm sad I either read Harry Potter or Stephanie Perkins. When I'm angry I prefer not to read because I can never enjoy the book fully.

My experience at Comic Con Portugal

I went to comic con yesterday and I had such a good time I wanted to share it with you! I saw a lot of things and people, I got to listen to Paul Blackthorne from arrow and so many more things. But what I was really excited about was Brian K. Vaughan. I recently got into graphic novels, and I love Saga! He signed the comics I had with me and took a picture with me.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay and listen to him talking because it was getting late and my brother was getting bored and wanted to go home. However I had a great day and I'm looking forward to repeat the experience!
