Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me
By Tahereh Mafi

from goodreads:

I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Review:

I had no idea what Shatter Me was about before I started reading it. There's a lot of hipe about this book and I was curious to what it was that everybody seemed to love. I have to say I wasn't disappointed, it was everything I was looking for! It is not the best dystopian I've ever read, it doesn't have the best characters or the most mind blowing plot but it was entertaining and addictive.

Being stuck in an asylum is not easy for anyone. Juliette feels like she is slowly loosing her mind. She has no company other than her own head. In the beginning of the book is obvious that Juliette is not mentally stable but as the story develops her thoughts start being more normal, it shows how strong of a character she really is. Even after everything she went through she is still faithful to herself, strong and kind. She does not wish for luxury or revenge. She just wants to feel loved, she wants a friend.

I can't really describe the other characters, I feel like there's something wrong with all of them, that they are just playing a game, pretending to be someone they are not just to gain Juliette's trust. I don't know whether they are good or bad, there's just something off about them.
However that is what I liked best about this book, the mystery. There are so many things left unsaid, unexplained. There is not a big plot twist in this book, I expect that something major will happen in the next books. And I really can't wait to start Unravel Me!

About the writing style, it took me a while to adapt to the metaphors, the repetitions and the way she is constantly saying something and then crossing what she just said. But after adapting I think it just added more to the story. She is still recovering from the time spent in the asylum and it's normal not to be perfectly coherent.

I had a good time reading Shatter Me and I'd recommend this to anyone who likes dystopian or is in the mood for some light and quick read!

Feature and Follow #8

Feature and Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

We are this week's feature! We are so excited!

When did you start blogging?
We both started blogging a few years ago but we only started book blogging and doing it together about 4 months ago.

What is your favourite part of book blogging?
Sharing our thoughts and discussing books with other readers. Growing and getting more involved in this community we love!

What type of books do you mainly blog about?
Contemporaries, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Dystopian mostly.

What is your favourite book(s)?
"The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green and "Just One Day" by Gayle Forman.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
Porbably always having something to do related to books even after we've finished them.

Question of the week: Your favourite fashions from the books you've read.

This is a hard question. Honestly, I'm not even sure what I'm being asked. Probably I'll be saying something silly. Please forgive me if this is the case.
I did enjoy the Deathly Hallows necklaces fashion. I have my own and I love it! It's super simple and cute but it has a deep meaning and it identifies you as a potterhead! That is a thing to be proud of!
If this was not what an accurate answer, I'm sorry. I really didn't know what I was being asked!

Share your answers on the comments down below! Have a great weekend!

Review: The Kill Order

The Kill Order
by James Dashner

book rate:

Brief Introduction:

The Kill Order is The Maze Runner's triology prequel. It tells the story of Mark and his friends and the world they lived in before WICKED, the Glade and the Maze were created. A world after the sun flares.

Review:

This book blew my mind! Seriously, it exceed my expectations by far! After reading several reviews on goodreads I figured you can only feel two ways about this book, either you hate it or you love it. I'm clearly on the last group and I have no regrets people!

Now on to the book itself. The Kill Order has such good amazing perfect characters! I don't mean perfect as in don't make a single mistake, I mean perfect as in they do and they are not the typical bookish mistakes, they are real life ones. This characters struck me because they were so coherent and so very close to what people in real life are. The way their minds worked made total sense and the descriptions of their behaviours were outstanding really. And I felt just the same about the plot! This story was so strong, it had real flaws and even the conversations between characters seemed amazingly real! And I know I've said "real" a lot in the last paragraph but it's just how I feel about this book.

The Kill Order left me with my mouth wide open while reading in public more than once, and I usually contain myself when reading in such circumstances!

The only downside I found about this book was that there's just one freaking book about this and there should be more! (Not really, that would ruin the story but I just loved the characters so much I wish I could meet them all over again...)

This is a book that will make you feel. This is a book that will make you think. Specially about things you probably never thought about before... I recommend 100%, even though you might love it or hate it, but I hope you can all fall in the first category.

Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder
By Marissa Meyer

from goodreads:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.
Review:

Cinder is nothing but a mechanic, a cyborg and an orphan. She has a mean stepmother and older stepsister. She has never known love except for her younger stepsister. She never thought she was special, but when prince charming steps in her booth everything she has ever known changes.

You've probably heard of Cinder before, there is a lot of hipe around this book. However I went into it without any expectations. I'd love to say I was positively surprised but I wasn't. I can't say I'm disappointed though, it was just an okay read.

What ruined the reading experience for me was how predictable I found it. As every book this one has some "big" plot twist, but I happened to figure it out on the first chapters, like in the first 10% of the book. I think in a way all my thoughts about Cinder were because I realised what was going to happened to soon. There was no mystery for me and it made the book dull! The writing style was boring as well, I felt like the author dragged the descriptions to much making it extremely slow paced.

However the storyline is quite interesting: the similarities with Cinderela were lovely and the characters were okay as well. I neither liked or disliked them, I just couldn't connect with any of them, I couldn't care less what happened to them but I did like the fact that Cinder was a mechanic.

Please, don't let my review stop you from reading Cinder. I think I would have liked it if I hadn't known how it would end. There are a lot of people out there who love this book!
I'm am not sure if I'll be reading the next books. In one hand I am curious what will happen but on the other I'm afraid I won't like it as well.
Tell me your thoughts on this book and whether or not I should continue with this series. Does it get better?
