Top Ten Tuesdays: books that were hard for us to read for various reasons

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is: books that were hard for me to read for various reasons.

1. Generation X by Douglas Coupland

I was offered this book by a British couple I'm friends with and therefore I tried really hard to read it but I just couldn't. The characters were so much older than I was and the book mentioned a lot of problems I was not familiar with as they were problem's of an older generation I just didn't identify with.

2. Um Fio de Fumo ao Fim do Mar by Alice Vieira

This was the first book I was unable to finish/had a hard time reading. It was a long time ago, I was quite young and at the moment I already forgot why I didn't like it. I think I found the story uninsteresting.

3. 1984 by George Orwell

A friend lent me this book and told it was his favourite. I made such a huge effort to read it but I guess it just didn't appeal to me in any way... Which is weird becuase I enjoy Farenheit 451 and I've been told they are pretty similar...

4. A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

This was my must recent addition to my "unable-to-finish" shelf one goodreads. I thought I would really enjoy this series but it took me 3 DAYS TO READ 10 PAGES! I felt like I was reading wihtout actually enjoying what I was reading so I stopped. I have a lot of others books I could use that time to read so I moved on my tbr list.

5. Memorial do Convento by José Saramago

This is portuguese book both me and Isabel had to read during our senior year in high school. She finished it, I never did. I got one third of the book read and was already so tired of the writting style that I thought to myself "You can manage the finals without reading this boring piece of a book" and luckily I did!

6. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I read The Great Gastby after watching the movie. Big mistake. I was so impressed with the movie that I found the book quite boring comparatively.

7. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

It took me quite a while to finish this book, but just because I found it to be very intense. I enjoyed it an awful lot, so much that this is probably my favourite classic!

8. Os Maias by Eça de Queirós

Another boring book for school.

9. Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

I really love Alice but I guess I was in a reading slump at the time and it took me more time to read this book.

10.... and I guess I'll save the 10th place to some next book that takes me a long time reading because right now I can't think of any other book that put me in that situation.

Top Ten Tuesday: authors I've only read one book from & need to read more

1. E. Lockhart - I read "We Were Liars" from her and loved it

2. Markus Zusak - I read "The Book Thief", which is now one of my favourite books

3. Charlotte Brontë - She wrote my all time favourite classic: "Jane Eyre"

4. David Nicholls - He wrote another one of my favourite books: "One Day"

(that awkward moment I realise I haven't read more than one book from half of authors of my favourite books......)

5. Niccoló Ammaniti - I read this book from him called "Me and You" a while ago and it left me really curious about the author

6. Maureen Johnson - Because I really liked her story in "Let it Snow"

7. Lisa Genova - I read "Still Alice" in tenth grade and it influenced me so freaking much

8. Maggie Stiefvater - I really liked "Shiver" when I read it, and even though I really want to finish the series I'm not very eager do to it right now because, at the time, I thought it was a stand alone and it's been like that in my head for years

9. Berte Bratt - I read my mother's copy of "Inge, obrigada" when I was younger and it blew my mind

10. Stephen Chbosky - I would read more from him... If there was more from him besides "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"...

Top Ten Tuesday: characters would have sat at my lunch table

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week topic is: characters would have sat at my lunch table.

1. Katy from the Lux series - She is a book lover and has a book blog, just like me! We have so much in common, she'd be perfect to sit with me.
2. Cricket from Lola and the Boy Next Door - he'd be so fun to have around, and he's studying mechanical engineering, which is what I'll be studying next year, it would be perfect!
3. Kami from Unspoken - Kami is so funny, I love her sense of humor and her creativity! She would  be an awesome friend
4. Allyson from Just One Day - she's such a down to earth character, I love how she thinks and how she behaves. I believe he'd be great friends.
5. Caymen from The Distance between us - she is so funny! I love her character, I know she would get my sense of humor and she'd be great to sit in my table!
6. Emily from Since You've Been Gone - she is a shy girl, but when she starts feeling comfortable with people, she is fun to be around, she reminds me of a friend of mine, so she'd be welcome to my table as well!
7. Anna from Anna and the French Kiss - she's is super friendly, funny and lovable, she'd be perfect from my lunch table. I have a feeling we could be good freinds
8. Alex from the F-it List - she's just a different character from what I usually read, but she is always super honest and that reminded me of another friend of mine. I think she'd like to be on our table
9. Levi from Fangirl - I need more boys in my table, and Levi is super easy to be around, and he's nice to everybody, he'd be good in our table.
10. Will from The Infernal Devices - I don't really know why I want him there, I just do, ok? I like him very much!

Top Ten Books I'm Not Sure I Want To Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week topic is books that I'm not sure I want to read. 
All of this books are book I or my parents own, but I'm not sure I'll ever get to read them. All of this books are in Portuguese.

1.

A Rosa Rebelde (White Rose Rebel)
By Janet Paysley

This book is my mother's, and she was the one who recommend it to me. I've tried to started it once, I only read the first 25 pages. I was in a reading slump when I picked this up, which did not help. Maybe I'll read it someday







2.

A Tormenta de Espadas, Volume II
By George R.R.Martin

In Portugal, the books of The Song of Ice and Fire trilogy were divided in 10 books instead of 5. This is part of the book 3 - A Storm of Swords. I gave up on this series after the second book. I was liking it, but then I was spoiled and never felt like picking this up again. Maybe I'll pick this eventually? I don't really know.

This was offered to me a few years ago on Christmas. I have never picked it up. I don't really know what this is about. Maybe I'll read it someday, who knows

I don't really like Nicholas Sparks. I've read 3 of his books (The Last Song, Dear John and Message in a Bottle). I liked them, I guess. But I guess I had enough of Nicholas Sparks. This book is my mother's as well.

Corações em Silêncio (The Rescue)

Another Nicholas Sparks' book which I don't think I'll ever read. I tried to read this once a few years ago. I only read a few chapters before putting it down.

I liked the movie. But I'll never read the book.

By José Rodrigues dos Santos

This book is from a Portuguese author. Everybody loves him here. I've never read any book from him but my parents love this books. I have always been curious about this but never really got to read it. I hope I'll one day

This another of my mother's books. She recommend it to me. But I watched the movie and didn't like it, so I don't think I'll ever read it.

O Diário de Anne Frank (The Diary of a Young Girl)

I never finished this book. I've tried several times, but was never able too.

O Caderno de Maya (El cuaderno de Maya)

I tried to read this but I was not in the mood for adult when I tried. Now my father is reading it and maybe I'll read this after him.
